Love of place. That’s what drives us at Jocassee Lake Tours and Jocassee Wild Outdoor Education. It is why I like to be at the dock when our boats come in, watching the joy and amazement that people bring in with them. It is why I love the crowds on Saturday who fill the day use area and beach at Devils Fork State Park. They see so little of the lake without boat access, but the peace of this place, the sublime water is plenty enough. The people who roar around on jet skis and wake boats are missing the point of Jocassee, but maybe they, too, stop and rest for a while, giving the silence of this wild place a chance to penetrate. One can be hopeful. ~B |
