a rocky surface

Micro’d‍
A $7 impulse buy, and the micro world opens wide. Sparkling spider webs, fat fern spores, and even my own fingernails are fascinating discoveries. Mushrooms! Insect wings! I’m eight years old again, exploring tiny worlds through a plastic jeweler’s loupe. Challenged to describe what I see, to think in terms of “what else is like that?” Challenged to draw analogies, to think about how similar things relate. Grass seeds! Leaf hairs! The strife-filled world around me disappears into a 3/4”, 5x lens that throws open a magical universe. No cynicism in this world, only wonder. I think I’ll stay awhile. ~K
