Kay Wade

a sunset over a body of water

Windy mornings‍
Air chilled from longer nights and higher elevations sinks down through the Jocassee Gorges and hits a lake surface still registering around 70 degrees. As air flows across warmer water it rises. The result is predictable. Wind. Whitecaps. An eye-opening spray of water across the bow of a boat. We pull out ponchos, layer on blankets, and turn our boats into the wind to experience the wonder of changing seasons on Lake Jocassee. Above the dock, bald eagles circle. Across the lake, sightings are reported of bobcats with kittens, and monarch butterflies migrating to Mexico, and a stray loon or two. As the sun rises higher and warms turbulent air, wind subsides and lake waters calm. Brave and determined new friends plunge into cool depths and swaddle in dry clothes soon thereafter. Autumn is with us; life is good.. ~K
