Vultures
It takes a special kind of person to love a vulture, but on the dock at Devils Fork State Park, here we are, standing together in our admiration of the one bird who makes most folks shudder with disgust. The vultures are, in our collective opinion, magnificent. Dozens of them roost in the narrow cove separating the main boat ramp from the boat ramp used by villa guests, and early in the morning, the vultures often congregate on the narrow sliver of sand that serves as a beach for park guests. As sun warms morning air they take flight, floating effortlessly on rising currents in ever-higher, ever-widening circles, with nary a flap of their wide, wide wings. ~K
