a group of people sitting on a boat

One morning this week, draped in ponchos and snuggled under blankets, we left the dock under a ceiling of dark, moisture-laden clouds, misting rain and air temps hovering in the 50’s. After introductions and questions of expectations for the day, one man in particular said he was hoping to see a bald eagle. 20 minutes later, he got his wish. To his added delight, a few minutes later, a belted kingfisher came rattling past us. He turned with a huge grin and said #2 was checked off his list. Rainy, cool days are usually great birding days. Tuesday and Friday, the Jocassee Wild Child program hosted fourth graders from Walhalla Elementary. These tree-hugging, rock-climbing young naturalists played, explored and learned about Lake Jocassee and the Jocassee Gorges. These little people were bright, curious and extremely well-mannered, and left laughing and singing promises to love and protect this place from now on. The magic of Jocassee is captivating! It speaks to everyone, regardless of age. If you need a little magic in your life these days… you’ll find it here! ~Sheryl
