For most of us ready for a respite from a long, dry summer and the clean up from the hurricanes, October has arrived with its sweatshirt mornings and short sleeve afternoons. Mid 40’s to low 50’s to start the day and mid 70’s by late afternoon. Migrating Monarch and Sulfur butterflies begin to move and flutter across the lake when air temps warm above 50°, but like most of us, 65-70° is more ideal travelling weather. Squirrels are busy caching food supplies in various locations and lining their dreys with soft material to keep them cozy through the cooler months ahead. The transitions of the season always brings a palpable energy with it, especially when we see early arrivals of winter birds or the numerous migratory butterflies and hawks flying through. We watched four white-tailed deer cross the dam one morning and several bald eagles gliding effortlessly above the tree line throughout the week. Surface temps. are in the low 70’s but that hasn’t stopped some folks from swimming yet. Come, join us for a few hours and recharge. Enjoy this weather while it lasts…just don’t forget your sweatshirts. ~Sheryl White, JLT guide & historian
