Out of our office window I can see 38 individual trees, at least. Yesterday’s wind made their branches dance and sway, but nothing stirs them today. Against an overcast February sky, each tree reveals the story of its family and unique life history. Some days, multitudes of birds sit within the filigreed layers of the trees’ slender branches. Woodpeckers come… not all our trees are alive.  Today a dark turkey vulture floats past, circles a treeless yard at the top of the hill, and does not flap its wings once during the full minute I watch, only tilting from side to side to glide with the ease of a paper kite.  ~K
