As a native of Oconee County, child of a Duke Energy employee; granddaughter of some of the late pastors and cousin to countless others in the surrounding area, I’m blessed to call this place home! This place with all of its beauty has challenged, grounded, sheltered and sustained so many through the years. Farming, education, mercantile, law enforcement, tourism & timber harvesting, were just some of the early industries that supplied opportunity for a good life. We as a company introduce Jocassee to a lot of people for the first time. My sincere hope is that our words convey how important and rare this place is and that you leave with a deeper appreciation for it. Sometimes, we get to meet people who are from the area. On a recent tour, I met a beautiful family who shared some of their history with us (see below). Thanks Michael! ~Sheryl White
EARLY JUNE SWIMMER'S REPORT. It’s been cool and overcast this week on Lake Jocassee. The week before was hot and sunny, just right for braving the cold waters of early summer Jocassee. This week? Well, let’s just say the water is bracing. Not painful, mind you, but you won’t need that morning cup of coffee if you decide instead to take an early jump in the lake. Cool and overcast is the forecast for a quiet lake, as the herd of summer boaters await the heat of a scorching overhead sun. I’ll take it. ~B
