It’s finally hot! With the deepest of sympathies for those suffering the ferocious, devastating fires in the Northwest, we are enjoying a remarkably mild July. It was 60 degrees at daybreak on July1! But all mild things must end, I assume, and just now the traditional heat of late July is finding us. Temperatures are reaching 90 and the afternoon thunderstorms that accompany such heat are predicably here. Now begins the late summer phenomena of all the sweltering masses from the midlands to the low country of South Carolina fueling up their boats and cars and coming our way. The lake fills with big lake and big ocean boats that really don’t fit here, but heck, can’t blame them giving it a try. You’ll know who the flatlanders are when they arrive because they talk funny. We Upstaters do not, of course.~B
