BEATEN AND BATTERED

Last week, strong summer storms pummeled the face of the Southern Blue Ridge Escarpment, driven by savage wind that whipped trees around like lassos. Wind and rain came in waves that slapped rock and shoreline with furious energy.  Roads were littered with leaves and twigs ripped from trees and scattered carelessly, and in some cases, broken trees pulled power lines across the roads.  Not just once did this happen, but three days in a row. Afterwards, each day, the air was full of saturated moisture, fog-like, still, soft, as if in apology for all the disturbance.~K
