You. Are such. A BIG. Spider. You drop from the tip of my broom like a repeller from a cliff, using your own plump body to instantly spin a silken rope. This higher I lift my broom to bring you over the porch rail the faster you drop, maintaining altitude. But in another instant, you’ve run up to my broom again, and I quickly hang you out over the rail, and down you spin again, and up you run again. I pop the broom handle across the deck rail and you hit the ground with a soft sound, and scurry away on your little hydraulic legs, four-legs-on-the-ground-four-legs-off-the-ground, until you disappear into the leaf litter. Your silk getaway rope is stretchy as I pull it off the broom but mess of silk web you’ve been guarding is sticky. Later I’ll find, below the web, the shell of a bumblebee, with a neat round hole where the stinger should be. A recent lunch, perhaps? ~K
