Christmastide sweeps along the Blue Wall, putting bright red berries on holly trees and decorating fallen leaves with crowns of Christmas fern. Lichens are especially silver; mosses are especially green. Mistletoe waves from treetops. Clear, cold water from recent snow rushes between boulders smoothed by many rains, in creeks which have followed the same track since long before the birth of the Christ child.  Do gray squirrels and cardinals note the fleeting swell of goodwill among humans at Christmastide? Surely they will soon be noticing the incremental lengthening of daylight… perhaps they think that’s what we humans celebrate.  Merry Christmas to the squirrels and the pine trees, the hollies and the ferns, and Merry Christmas to you!  ~K
