DIVERSITY

This has certainly been a long 4th of July week...

what with the 4th being on Wednesday. It has seemed like the whole world took the week off to enjoy summer on Lake Jo. We started the week with a tour for some very special people with special needs from Camp Reach, the excellent summer camp program run by the Youth Learning Institute of Clemson University.  A quiet ride up the Howard Creek arm of the lake, then out across the wide expanse of the basin, the gentle Jocassee breeze seemed to settle and please this mostly nonvocal group. Sometimes silence is quite enough here. Then on came the families for this holiday week! Kids galore, grandparents and parents too, it’s been a week for jumping off rocks and swimming in waterfalls. We squeezed in a packed Jocassee Valley History Tour with Claudia Hembree, and two kayak tours as well, and all of this somehow accomplished while dodging some very challenging weather. It’s been a good week.~B
