We saw eagles on the nest for the first time this year.
We’ve been seeing who we believe to be Ma and Pa Eagle for the last few weeks, always on the upper reaches of the Toxaway, and now they are preparing the nest for this year’s brood. It’s only the second eagle’s nest that’s ever been found in the Jocassee Gorges, and the only one presently active, and it is beautifully located for all to see. Now if only we can get other boaters to not rush up to and under the nest to disturb the nesting birds. It’s a challenge for us every year.
JAN 31. The first snow of the year! It wasn’t cold enough for it to stick but snow it did. In the absence of wind, it fell straightforward from the sky, in copious amounts for a while. It’s a rare treat around here, and what a magical way for January to depart. ~B
