Spend your days practicing social distancing on one of the hundreds of miles of wilderness hiking trails

SHELTER OUT! I really wonder about those officials who are recommending/requiring folks to stay in their houses until the corona virus catastrophe has passed. Being sentenced to staying indoors will surely lead to deep depression and certain Netflix addiction. I say, and loudly, ‘SHELTER OUT!’ Spend your days practicing social distancing on one of the hundreds of miles of wilderness hiking trails available in our area, spend the night camping under the stars, or better yet spend the day with us on Lake Jocassee. (you knew it was coming). That’s what I’m doing now, spending every hour I can watching the phenomenon of spring loon migration on the lake. The birdlife on the lake is extraordinary right now, and not just loons. Countless ducks, coots and Bonaparte’s gulls are a part of the kinetic surface of the lake every day now. Might as well come and enjoy it while you’ve got some time off. The migration should be ongoing through the middle of April.
SPRING BLOOM/FOLIAGE REPORT. Oconee Bells are in full and glorious bloom, and maples are painting the hills with soft pastels of red and orange, poplars are greening, and yellow clumps and thick swirls of golden yellow pollen are collecting in watery coves all around Lake Jocassee.
OUR COVID-19 POLICY. In case you haven’t seen it on our website or in earlier communications, please know we take the corona virus epidemic very seriously. Our boats are cleaned and sanitized daily, and we abide by the CDC guidelines for social distancing by keeping our tour size to no more than 8 people. We also supply clean air, fresh breezes, and an exploding early spring on a vast wilderness lake sheltered by the surrounding Jocassee Gorges. No extra charge for that. ~B
